The euro in Georgia
Together with the dollar, the euro is the foreign currency that every bank and exchange office in Georgia quotes: the European Union is one of the country’s main trading partners, and many Georgians work in the euro area and send money home. The official EUR rate is calculated from the official dollar rate and the euro–dollar rate on international markets, so the euro can move against the lari even on a day when the dollar does not.
Banks and exchange offices quote the euro as readily as the dollar, but the gap between their buy and sell rates is usually a little wider.
